- For Winston Smith in other continuities, see Winston disambiguation page.
Winston Smith is the Croft family butler, chauffeur and faithful servant to Lara Croft.
Winston's family has been with the Crofts for generations, and he has been the family butler since he was honorably discharged from the military in his late-twenties; just as his father before him. He moved into Croft Manor to stay as the only live-in staff when his wife died, before Lara was born. He tends to all Lara's household needs, going far beyond the duties of a traditional butler given Lara's unusual lifestyle and pursuits, but he has never disappointed her. His loyalty to Lara, her parents, and Croft Manor is beyond question.
Tomb Raider: Anniversary Edit
Tomb Raider: Legend Edit
Winston returns in Legend. He looks taller and much younger than in the previous games. He appears in cut scenes and the Manor level, however he has no dialogue or movement. (LEG: "Croft Manor", "Nepal - The Ghalali Key")
Tomb Raider: Underworld Edit
Winston makes another return in Tomb Raider: Underworld. The only appearances of him are in cut scenes. One is before the Croft Manor level begins. Winston open the crypt hidden entrance and apologize Lara for not caring for crypt interior lately. He is seen walking through catacombs with Lara. Next he is seen standing next to a gun-wielding Zip in the burned manor. When Zip tries to shot Lara thinking she is responsible for the arson, Winston stops him and claims that it wasn't her. After Alister death, Zip and Winston are waiting outdoors for Alister and Lara to show up. (UND: "No Illusions", "Protected by the Dead")
