Upgrade

Upgrade is a game mechanic in Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness.

Lara can upgrade her lower and upper body strength by interacting with objects like: moving heavy objects, kicking down doors, or climbing.[1]

Sprint function is locked behind the upgrade system.

Locations[]

  • Upgrade 1 - Parisian Back Streets, breaking the padlock of the roof compartment door.
  • Upgrade 2 - Derelict Apartment Block, smashing down the door of apartment 31.
  • Upgrade 3 - Industrial Roof Tops, moving a crate under the ladder on the ground level.
  • Upgrade 4 - St. Aicard's Church, pushing the stone altar away from stairs (can be repeated when leaving church and returning).
  • Upgrade 5 - Le Serpent Rouge, pulling the lever in the garage which opens a grate to the basement.
  • Upgrade 6 - Le Serpent Rouge, kicking down the walkway at the top level.
  • Upgrade 7 - St. Aicard's Graveyard, ramming down a door of a crypt.
  • Upgrade 8 - St. Aicard's Graveyard, pushing the angel statue to reveal Bouchard's hideout.
  • Upgrade 9 - Louvre Storm Drains, turning the shut off fan to be able to crouch underneath it.
  • Upgrade 10 - Louvre Storm Drains, turning the shut off fan in Louvre Storm Drains second time to be able to crouch underneath it.
  • Upgrade 11 - Louvre Galleries, moving the display case near Mona Lisa, to reveal the security card reader.
  • Upgrade 12 - Louvre Galleries, monkey-swinging a power line on the roof of Louvre.
  • Upgrade 13 - Tomb of Ancients, kicking down the door at the end of lever taking right path.
  • Upgrade 14 - The Hall of Seasons, pushing a broken wall on the top level.
  • Upgrade 15 - Galleries Under Siege, opening the case of respirators (unlocks sprint move).
  • Upgrade 16 - Von Croy's Apartment, kicking down the door leading to the bathroom.
  • Upgrade 17 - The Monstrum Crimescene, pushing a cupboard near a scaffolding at Vasiley's house.
  • Upgrade 18 - The Strahov Fortress, pushing the top crate of a stack of crates near a fence.
  • Upgrade 19 - The Bio-Research Facility, jumping a gap in the middle level, allowing for longer jumps.
  • Upgrade 20 - Aquatic Research Area, pulling the Leviathan feeding cart.
  • Upgrade 21 - The Vault of Trophies, pulling a level revealing a hidden compartment behind a book case.
  • Upgrade 22 - The Lost Domain, jumping a gap in a room before the timed door (Unlocks sprint jump).

Trivia[]

  • There's a upgrade in the removed tutorial section in Parisian Back Streets, that can be accessed though glitches for breaking a padlock on a locked gate (This was restored in remaster in Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered but only one upgrade on the level counts).
