Saladin or Salah ad-Din was a Sunni Muslim Kurd. While he was born in Tikrit in present-day Iraq, he became the first sultan of both Egypt and Syria, founding the Ayyubid dynasty[1].

Saladin was responsible for building the Citadel in Cairo over the crusaders vaults that housed the ceremonial tablets of Set.
In December 1999, Werner Von Croy while being possessed by Set, came in search of those tables in Saladin's Citadel. Set had bound Jean-Yves in the courtyard. Lara Croft followed Set there and locked him in the crusaders vaults.
