Safeguarding the Doors[]

Claudio ambushes Lara.
In 1997, Claudio was tasked with safeguarding the entrance to Dragon Emperor's palace, so that no one else would venture toward the doors. He set up a small campsite in the cave where the doors were located beneath the Great Wall of China. Sure enough, someone did indeed arrive at the doors But it was not his leader, Marco Bartoli. It was Lara Croft. Hidden from view, Claudio launched himself at the newcomer. With the clicking of his tommy gun betraying his presence, Lara was able to repel him. Drawing her Dual Pistols, Lara put the cult member at gunpoint then began questioning him about the Dagger of Xian. Claudio tells Lara about the right one and right time to arrive and that the hearts of those who believe shall be honored. He then produced a bottle, pulled off the lid and raised it high, speaking the name of his leader. Gulping the liquid, he began to choke and slumped over to one side. Claudio had sacrificed his life for his leader, an act that is expected of all Fiamma Nera members inferior to the leader. Leaving the dead man, Lara searched the campsite and discovered where her next destination would be. Via Caravelli in Venice, Italy.
