Alicia Vikander portrayed Lara Croft in Tomb Raider (2018) and Tomb Raider: The Live Experience. She is an Academy Award winning actress, and is also known for films such as Ex Machina, The Danish Girl, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and The Green Knight.
Vikander played the original game in her youth in secret.[1] When cast in the role for the 2018 reboot, Vikander turned to Tomb Raider (2013) and Rise of the Tomb Raider for further reference.
On July 31, 2022, it was reported that the film rights held by MGM had expired, and that the film series would be rebooted with a new actress playing Lara Croft, effectively replacing Vikander.[2]

- Vikander expressed her excitement when Ben Wheatley signed on to direct Tomb Raider 2, as they were previously set to work together on a project that never came to be. However, Wheatley subsequently dropped out of Tomb Raider 2 following scheduling conflicts after the COVID-19 pandemic and was replaced by Misha Green prior to its final cancellation.
- Vikander and Hayley Atwell appear together in the film Testament of Youth, marking the second time two actors to portray Lara Croft have been directly involved in the same project - following Shelley Blond and Jonell Elliott's appearances on the West End together.
